- In Latin America and the Caribbean, 1 in 3 are people under 18 years of age, a condition that exposes them to violent treatment; 6 out of 10 continue to be beaten at home, for educational purposes.
- No type of violence against children is justifiable; all girls, boys and adolescents have the right to a life without violence.
- Mexican wrestling has a wide audience for children and families; Professional wrestlers should not bring violence to their daily lives, on the contrary, athletes can contribute to reinforcing respectful and positive parenting guidelines.
The Weaving Networks Childhood Initiative for Latin America and the Caribbean and Legado Wagner, leaders in Mexican wrestling, presented the #InfanciasSinViolencia campaign, with the aim of reinforcing and spreading the message in favor of positive parenting and non-violence within the framework of the Day of the Boy and the Girl to be commemorated on April 30, in Mexico. Juan Martín Pérez García, Regional Coordinator of the Initiative Weaving Childhood Networks for Latin America and the Caribbean, the members of Legado Wagner, Dr. Wagner Jr., Son Dr. Wagner Jr. and Galeno del Mal participated in the media conference.
In Latin America and the Caribbean, 1 in 3 inhabitants are people under 18 years of age, a condition that exposes them to violent, inhuman and degrading treatment, 6 out of 10 continue to be beaten at home, for educational purposes. For Juan Martín Pérez, it is relevant that athletes with a great family tradition, such as the Wagner Legacy, are spokespersons for this campaign, as a call that the violence that is represented in Mexican wrestling is not transferred against childhood, and that they understand that violence is not a normal form of relationship between people. The launch of the #InfanciaSinViolencia campaign means that we can move towards respectful and positive parenting guidelines.
For the Wagner Legacy, joining the #InfanciaSinViolencia campaign represents pride and commitment to transmit the message and reflection to other adults about the importance of family ties, eliminating forms of violence, ensuring that the fighters represent a figure of heroes, for childhood and in Mexican society. "Whoever messes with the kids messes with the Wagner Legacy," the wrestlers said.
For Juan Martín Pérez, the #InfanciaSinViolencia campaign can help dismantle myths by thinking that violence is something that comes from outside when the data shows that it is actually happening in the family context.
