Feminist upbringing: collective responsibility and a tool for change for the new generations

  • Women from the middle economic stratum have begun to question the role of motherhood and feminist motherhood, because they have had access to information and training. Low-income women are following the cultural route, repeating patterns, often due to lack of access to information.
  • In parenting it is collective and formative, the State, institutions, organizations, society, the family and the media must participate fully.

In Ollin Tv, spaces for dialogue are generated between experts, civil society organizations and authorities that work to defend the rights of children. On this occasion, the Initiative Weaving Childhood Networks for Latin America and the Caribbean, organized the Webinar How to exercise motherhood and feminist upbringing?, with a focus on human rights and a gender perspective.

The participation of Alicia Nayeli de Ita, Founder and member of Crianza Feminista in Mexico; Perla Blas, Coordinator of the journalistic project “Here we are: child femicide in Mexico”, Deisy, a young activist for children's rights in Colombia, moderated by Juan Martín Pérez García, Regional Coordinator of the #TejiendoRedesInfancia Initiative.

Alicia Nayeli de Ita explained that one of the main objectives of the Crianza Feminista collective in Mexico is to make motherhood visible and eliminate the entrenched ideas that women are diminished in their human aspects when they become mothers.

In this sense, Juan Martín Pérez pointed out that in the world some feminist movements have been awarded the anti-maternity position, therefore feminist movements arise that seek to name, recognize and end the sexist and discriminatory practices that arise around this being a mother.

For her part, given the terrible figures related to child femicide, Perla Blas shared that "Here we are: child femicide in Mexico", began as a media monitoring project to document this type of event, which resulted in a registry of cases through an interactive map, to later make each of these cases visible, without yellowing, without red note and highlighting that each case represents a truncated life, dreams and aspirations.

From her experience as a young woman and activist for children's rights, Deisy from Colombia, shared that in Latin America girls grow up with social, political and religious stereotypes, denying them access to information that allows them to decide about their own body , their sexuality and motherhood, continuing with the circle of forming new human beings enrolled in the macho and patriarchal system, he also pointed out that “women are told how we should behave in parenting. Fortunately, feminism exists, as a way to grow and raise human beings that create a harmonious environment for everyone "

Among the main coincidences of the experts regarding feminist upbringing is that women from the middle-economic stratum have begun to question the role of motherhood and feminist motherhood, because they have had access to information and training. Low-income women are following the cultural route, repeating patterns, often due to lack of access to information.

As positive and female upbringing is a tool of change for the new generations, which is addressed in a collective and formative way, the State, institutions, organizations, society, the family and the media must participate fully, they assure experts and experts.

Unfortunately, in the opinion of Juan Martín Pérez, in order to have a baby under favorable conditions, with a rights perspective and a gender perspective, a privileged environment is required, precisely there is where feminist upbringing puts the accent, on accompanying women mothers.

Alicia Nayeli de Ita, mentioned that the current variants of parenting (positive, with attachment, exclusive breastfeeding and free demand) do not match the current conditions of life for women and are only possible when there is a privileged environment; He said that, "the environment asks us to do up to four days, paid work, care for other people, domestic work and work in civil organizations, for some".

Currently there is also talk of resigned maternity wards, which has nothing to do with love for children, in which all responsibility is delegated to women, reproducing patriarchal behaviors, as a form of survival.

Finally, experts recognized the importance of living motherhood without guilt, in the face of the painful process of breaking necessary, to leave behind roles and stereotypes.

To provide tools to women who wish to learn more about “feminist parenting”, the Collectives that participated in this Webinar offer parenting training workshops where topics such as: childhood as a subject of change in society, chosen motherhood are addressed. , guilt and motherhood, feminist upbringing, and building a solidarity network.
