On April 28, 2021, a series of protests began in Colombia in which the central issue was the new tax reform of President Iván Duque announced on April 15 of the same year. Police brutality against protesters drew the attention of the press across the continent. Almost two weeks into the protests, more than 800 people are expected to have suffered serious damage while 24 more have lost their lives. Among the wounded and dead are children and older adults who were also attacked with gas, bullets and violence.
