LThe proposal to reduce the legal age of majority as well as increase the time in which adolescents in conflict with the law are deprived of their liberty are not an answer to stop the high rates of violence. In Brazil as in other countries in the region, this issue has sparked a great controversy in which not all voices have been heard. Today there is a risk that this regressive reform will be accepted in Brazil even though it is proven that in the countries where the measure has been applied, the rates of violence have increased.
